Car welding and MOT welding in Milton Keynes

Sills, chassis rails and wheel arches welded to MOT standard, on cars, vans and classics.

4.7 from 30 Google reviews

We weld cars and vans to MOT standard in our Bletchley workshop, from sills and chassis rails to wheel arches. Most corrosion failures at the MOT come from rust in the structure close to a seat belt, suspension or steering mounting, and that's the work we repair.

How the MOT judges rust

The MOT inspection manual calls the parts of the car it checks most closely for rust "prescribed areas". These are the load-bearing parts that things like the brakes, steering and suspension are mounted to, plus "any load-bearing or supporting structure or supporting panelling within 30cm of the mounting location".

The manual's own example is a seat belt mounted on an inner sill: the outer sill, any door pillar and the floor within 30cm of that mounting are all part of the check. In those areas the tester rejects the car if "the corrosion has caused a hole in the metal" or "the area does not feel firm when you press it with your finger and thumb".

So a rusty sill near a seat belt mounting is a fail, even if the car drives perfectly. The fix is a proper welded repair in sound metal.

Vans and classics too

Do you weld vans?

Yes. We weld vans as well as cars, for trade and private customers.

Do you weld classic cars?

Yes. Welding and rust repair are a big part of the restoration work we do.

Why did my car fail its MOT for corrosion?

The MOT fails rust in the load-bearing structure where parts like seat belts, suspension and steering are mounted, and in any supporting structure within 30cm of those mountings. It fails if the rust has made a hole or the metal doesn't feel firm when pressed. Read our guide to MOT corrosion failures.

How do I get a welding quote?

The quickest way is a few photos of the rusty area on WhatsApp to 07843 699463, or the failure sheet if it has failed its MOT. You can also use the quote form.
